Becoming a Licensed Real Estate Salesperson

To become a licensed Connecticut real estate agent, you must initially complete a real estate course called "Principals and Practices" and then proceed to a state licensing exam.

Principles and Practices: Comprised of 60 classroom hours conducted over several weeks and a written final exam. The courses are conducted locally throughout the state. Three of the eastern Connecticut locations are:

State License Exam: After completing Principals and Practices successfully, you must complete and pass the State and General real estate exams. These tests are administered under the direction of the Connecticut Real Estate Commission and are administered by PSI Licensure. Upon passing these exams you can affiliate with an agency as a salesperson.

Initial and Ongoing Fees: Approximate fees that you will encounter:

  • Principles & Practices course, $550 (one time)

  • Real Estate License Exam, $65 (one time)

  • CT Salesperson's License, $305 (annual)

  • Initial Realtor Membership, $250 (one time)

  • Realtor Dues – Local-State-National, $720 (annual)

  • Multiple Listing Service Fees, $157 (semi annual)
